Architect: JSª Location: Av. Insurgentes 301-303, Mexico City, Mexico Total Area: 132,504 sq ft Date of the project: 2011, In progress Photographer: Romeilia Hernandez
The idea behind this design for Amsterdam Tower in Mexico City, designed by JSª, is to build into the existing urban context along Insurgentes Avenue thereby adding to existing buildings and housing projects with programs of mixed use. JSª chose six adjacent plots to develop housing with public parking, shops and offices.
The building is divided into residential and commercial access. The residential area is accessible along Colonia Condesa, while the commercial areas are accessible along Insurgentes Avenue. This division allows for the housing units to retain private entrances that face a residential area and for commercial areas to face the busy public streets.
Amsterdam tower forms part of the mixed-use complex formed by two buildings toward Amsterdam Street and two buildings toward Insurgentes Avenue, with a common plaza in the middle. This combination allowed for the tower to be built to a height of 19 levels, making it the highest tower in this area on Insurgentes Avenue. The apartments were designed taking maximum advantage of the orientation, with beautiful views to the south and to the Colonia Condesa.
