Tutor Call for MEDS CIERZO 2022

During every summer since 2010, MEDS (Meetings of Design Students), an international workshop of architecture and design that takes place in different countries of Europe. This year, the workshop will be held in Zaragoza (Spain).

Located in the Northeast of Spain at the river Ebro´s bank and traditionally known as a strategic point between Madrid and Barcelona, Zaragoza has much more to offer. In 2008 the city hosted the International Exhibition (EXPO) 'Water and sustainable development', where important architects such as Zaha Hadid or Nieto Sobejano took part of it. This year, tutors and participants will gather around Las Fuentes neighborhood, bringing together young talent, creativity and innovation.

The purpose will be to redefine and update Las Fuentes, taking advantage of its enormous potential, helping the regeneration of the neighborhood through collaborative schemes, ideas, concepts and projects of architecture, art and design. The themes: sustainability, support for local commerce and the renovation of some urban spaces among others. We want to renew ancient winds, starting from our present and thinking about the future.

Not to forget also, one of the main ideas that will be carried out through the workshop. The wind, CIERZO. A particular and different atmospheric phenomenon characteristic of the area. A strong wind which is formed by the difference of temperature between two local air masses - warm and cold.

The wind and water, as design concepts, could be shown in all the workshops, either as a metaphor, taking advantage of the energy that generates in a sustainable way, through architectural movement, sound strategies, or by introducing the air to enhance the proposals. Meanwhile, the proposals will conform a route, following landmarks and points of interest.

During those two weeks of August, that wind will be formed by young artists from all over the world, who will discover, learn, investigate and walk along through the squares, and new places the neighborhood, Las Fuentes offers. A breeze guided by a great gang of artists and designers.
