AIA New Orleans in partnership with AIA Austin and Women in Architecture, are hosting the second annual Design and Practice Exchange, entitled Design to Change, a virtual symposium focusing on equity in educational design, the environment, and offering professional networking and development opportunities.
Architects from each city will be paired to provide perspective and context from both communities. Attendees will have access to the virtual cinema series featuring films from both cities during and after the event. Join us Friday, September 11th for our keynote of Donna Carter, FAIA (Austin) and Dr. Michelle Thompson (New Orleans) in conversation. Then we will take a deep dive into educational building typologies, by exploring case studies that rethink schools in the built environment. Day one concludes with paired presentations with environmentally focused design through residential, public and landscape architecture perspectives in Austin and New Orleans. Saturday’s session will begin with a showing and then live discussion of virtual site tours. Then small group mentor discussions will connect Austin and New Orleans mentors across the career spectrum.
The goal of this program is to advance and promote women leaders of all racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds in architecture and the allied design and building industries. This event is open to people of all gender identities, including men, queer, trans* and nonbinary people.
HSW and CEU Credits available.
