BuildFest 2: Peace Rises invites proposals for timber "Peace-Infrastructure" at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival.
Grounded in the theme of fire as both a gift and a burden—mirroring humanity's responsibility in wielding emerging technologies—the competition seeks designs that foster community, craft, and ecological balance.
Proposals fall into three typological scales:
* Peace Pop-ups: Small-scale interventions (e.g., seating, tables, bars).
* Peace Hubs: Medium-scale structures (e.g., gateways, shade pavilions).
* The Peace Pavilion: A single space for gathering and contemplation.
Awards: Between $1,000 and $6,000 available per project, accepting up to 9 proposals.
Deliverables:
* Project statement (max 250 words)
* Conceptual imagery (drawings, models, diagrams, renderings)
* One "hero" image (3000 px on short edge)
* Off-site construction timeline and on-site installation schedule
* Draft budget (including any existing monetary or in-kind support)
* Bios of the faculty team
* Links to past projects/research
Submission Format: Single PDF (max 20MB) to BuildFest@bethelwoodscenter.org with the subject line "Peace Rising"
